EIGHT IS GREAT

For our eighth anniversary we decided to go all out and return triumphantly to where it all began... The Bloor Cinema.

Four programs crammed with truly mind altering work from all corners of the earth screened over the two days. Filmmakers, enthusiasts and industry reps all came to Toronto to check out the films and the parties.

This year featured an exculsive meet and greet opener at the Hotshot Gallery in Kensington Market, and yes our afterparty hosted as well by Hotshot and catered by local caterers.

As customary, hundreds came out to the parties to have some fun, and thanks go out to all the volunteers that helped keep everything in line!

CHECK OUT THE BLING

2008's jury consisted of Student Short Alum and local filmmaker Pat Mills, Distributor Kam Jev, TIFF Programmer Nick Pagee, WWSFF Program Manager Tania Reilly, and Sara Gregorash from Channel Zero Inc.

Once again, the jury spent much time deliberating over the impressive selection of Canadian films, and decided to structure the awards a little differently this year.

The films were so close that they decided to award a blanket First, Second and Third prizes that covered films from any and all genres, and since we had SOOO many animations this year, to include a seperate award for them.

The winners were:
  • First Prize: The Escape Clause by Scott Boyd

  • Second Prize: Assault by Kazik Radwanski

  • Third Prize: My Dad Ralph by Nicholas Wong

  • Best Animation: Hooked by Kristin Williams
Honarable mention to: The Bear by Eva Michon

  • Audience Choice: The Escape Clause by Scott Boyd

Back to the Bloor baby.
