Student Shorts 2007 recap

The guys from Raindance present an award to Dusty Mancinelli
ANOTHER YEAR..

Wow 8 years and still running! Student Shorts 2007 was absolutely swamped with submissions from dozens of countries around the world. Each year the festival gets more and more difficult to program as the number of incredible film submissions keeps rising.

General audience and industry reps alike crammed the Innis Town Hall Theatre to watch our four unique programs, and were stunned by the diversity and quality of the student work.

We had our traditional opening party, this year at the NOW lounge, and offered filmmakers to mingle with their peers in an intimate setting. And of course, our now legendary afterparty kicked off once more at the Bishop and Belcher. Good food was eaten, good beer was drank, and the awards were distributed.

As per usual, hundreds came out to the parties to have some fun, and thanks go out to the Bishop, NOW Lounge, and to Wellington Brewery for sponsoring the events.

AWARDS TO BE WON

2007's jury consisted of distributor Gaelle Mareschi, Filmmaker Kris Booth, Programming Coordinator Sara Gregorash, and festival director Carla Nolan.

With the amount of truly incredible films to decide the winners from, it was no easy task.. the four of them were locked up in the NFB screening room for hours before they came out with their decisions.

The winners were:
  • Best Narrative: P.U.R.E by Dusty Mancinelli

  • Best Documentary: A Tug on Life by Kyle Giardano

  • Best Animation: GLiTCH by Peter Ricq
