Recap of Student Shorts 2002

Student Shorts 2002
was held at Jackman Hall at Toronto's Art Gallery of Ontario. Hundreds of people lined up along McCaul St to witness the very best of Canadian student filmmaking, and were very impressed! Our audience total surpassed 2001, as did the amount of films we received from across the country, demonstrating the growth of the festival. Heck, we even got reviewed in the NOW magazine! Thanks to generous sponsors like Videoscope, Medallion PFA, Captain Printworks, The Canadian Film Centre and Ivaan : Lord of the Rings, we were able to offer several awards that were granted to the very best of the best on September 28th after the final screening. Like all cool festivals, we had an afterparty at a downtown bar. In our case it was the "Village Idiot" at the corner of Dundas and McCaul. Many of the cast and crew met up there afterwards to take a load off after a busy two days of watching movies.

The Student Shorts 2002 award winners were as follows:

1st
place -- Elad Winkler
(Ryerson) for Conflict

2nd place -- Dylan Riebling
(York) for Partisan

3rd
place -- Ben Roberts
(Queens) for Fastseduction

In addition to these awards we ran a "peoples choice" ballot for the most popular film according to the audiences over the four screenings and two nights. The outcome would decide the winner in the coveted Best in Pile award.

Best in Pile -- James "Jimmy G" Gawthroupe for The Dim Reaper
