Recap
of Student Shorts 2001

Student Shorts 2001 was heralded as a great success from all those
who took part. Over two nights in late September the best student films
from across the country lit up the screen to a packed house of enthusiastic
movie
goers. In the audience sat an array of critics, distributors and representatives
from the industry along with the filmmakers and their fans. A handful
of directors were later approached by the Independent Film Channel
and The Movie Network where purchasing arrangements went underway.
Some films have already been aired on these respective networks thanks
to their exposure through this unique event. This year Student Shorts
is going to be even bigger and badder but we need applications to make
this happen. Submit your film today!
Thanks
to generous sponsors like Videoscope,
Medallion PFA, SONY,
Kodak, Codes
Pro Media, Rhombus Media and Ivaan
: Lord of the Rings, we were able to offer several awards that were
granted to the very best of the best on September 29th after the final
screening.
The Student Shorts 2001 award winners
were as follows:
1st place -- Eva Ziemsen for
Mama and Papa
2nd place -- Matt Hood for The Collected
works of Percival T. Vanderhaege
3rd place -- Martine Duprey for This
Girl
In
addition to these awards we ran a "people's choice" ballot
for the most popular film according to the audiences over the four screenings
and two nights. The outcome would decide the winner in the coveted Best
in Pile award.
Best in Pile
-- Matt Burke for Doe, Ray Me
See you
this coming year in September for Student Shorts
2002! -Iain
